The headline facts
The new route is delivered through an extension of the existing Cladding Safety Scheme, administered by Homes England, following a Written Ministerial Statement on 9 July 2026.
It's worth understanding how it works. The government still believes most buildings under 11 metres carry low risk, so this is a targeted fund rather than a blanket guarantee, funding will go where the evidence shows it's needed most.
A Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls (FRAEW), completed to PAS 9980, is the key piece of evidence, and Homes England will review every one submitted. The most serious, life-critical cases are prioritised first, with any remaining funding directed to where it can do the most good.
Applications are open now and close on 9 October 2026, so it's worth acting sooner rather than later. Works already underway, or contracts signed before 9 July 2026, won't be eligible for this particular route.
